In this section I’ve listed some of the amazing articles I found when I began my fairy tale quest. I must confess that I prefer messy self-discovery to drinking from the expert’s cup but I was captivated by Tolkien’s ‘consolation of the happy ending and Steiner’s ‘primeval clairvoyance.’ They helped me become a better reader and opened vast possibilities in the fairy tales I found.
Finding Jens Bjorneboe was typical of my fairy tale encounters with Google. I stumbled upon his essay (“Two Years at a Rudolf Steiner School”) copied it to my computer and then wasn’t able to find it again for several years. That essay gave me a different sense of what fairy tales might be for, which has stayed with me all this time.
There are many, many seers who have guided me in my quest: W.B. Yeats, Marie-Louise von Franz, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Italo Calvino , to name just a few. When I can, I’ll add their thoughts to this site.
Like all fairy tale characters I discovered I would find what I needed when I needed it most. I wish you the same…
